Essay We Too Dependent Computer

17 Feb Are we too Dependent on Computers?

Computers were invented years ago, and due to their ability to be able to perform various tasks, they have been highly put to use by human beings. Computers make life easier and due to this they have increasingly been put to use and easily found their way into the lives of people. There are various reasons that led to computers being put to maximum use by people. This is because they enable people to do their work while at home, people are able to socialize with those they have never met, and also contact friends and relatives who are living far. As humans continue to use computers, they get addicted to them, and are unable to lead lives without computers. This is because their whole lives depend and revolve around computers. This article will focus on the importance of computers and see whether we are too dependent on them.

The world of today depends heavily on computers and this dependence has both positive and negative impacts. Computers have many benefits, but these benefits also come with negative effects. Various arguments have risen against computers and researchers claim that computers are having negative effects on children. According to professional essay writers at ConfidentWriters.com, the rate of illiteracy is rising than it was before because students no longer write their assignments. They use the computers to carry out research and work on their assignments instead of independent thinking. Students use the content got from websites to complete their assignments and this discourages learning. This increases the level of illiteracy because learners are deterred from thinking independently. This kills creativity because everything they do is copied.

This might be a small issue to older learners, but younger learners who are practicing on how to read and write will have difficulties. When it comes to spelling young learners will not have any idea on how to spell because they are used to the computer which spells for them. It is important to note that small spellings become difficult for younger learners to memorize. If they did it in writing it would be easier for them to remember. These factors are on the rise and it is recommend for computers to be reserved for older learners, assignments that are long such TOK essays and cannot be written by hand, and for special computer classes.

Cases of obsession to computers have also been on the rise. People have got used to computers, and it has reached a time they cannot do without them. Computers make life simpler; people are able to chat with others online, shop online, and even play games. All these activities can lead to obsession if a person is not careful. The cyber world is not a real world, it is important for people to associate more with the real world than the cyber world. Children should not be allowed to spend all day on their computers playing computer games. Instead, they should be sent outside and play with other children. This will help reduce or prevent computer obsession.

Apart from obsession, other things that arise due to too much use of computers are laziness, obesity, and strained eyes. Children who are used to computers would not want to participate in any other activity because they do not find it interesting. They may end up being obese because they spend all their free time indoors and on their computers. Strained eyes is another disadvantage of too much computer use. People who overuse the computer have difficulties with seeing letters; they have to strain their eyes in order to see. This may lead to visual impairment if too much use of computers is not stopped.

The issue that should be put into consideration when it comes to the use of computers is the safety of personal information. It is good to share information through computers, but there is no guarantee that the information is safe. This personal information includes addresses, full names, phone numbers and other personal details. Too much dependence on computers has led to people being comfortable, and trust that their information is safe in the computers.

Almost everywhere in the world people use computers; the use of smart-cards is computerized, traffic lights are computerized, bank doors, manufacturing companies have robots that are run by computers. When these computers or the internet fail, it means everything will come to a standstill. Over reliance on computers has led to the smallest thing that can be performed without a computer has been computerized.

The United States of America is one of the nations that have almost everything running by the help of computers; from homes to public places, from public places to the security of the country. The military depends on computers to detect threats from external forces, and they use these computers to curb the threats. What may happen if all the computers fail? It means everything in America will come to a standstill and the nation will be vulnerable to attacks.

Conclusively, computers are very important in the lives of humans, but it is essential to reduce over dependence. People should try and reduce the overuse of computers because despite them making life easier, they have as many disadvantages as advantages. It might be difficult for people to note that they are too much dependent on computers, but with time they realized that it is quite dangerous.

Are We Too Dependent On Computers?

Today we live in a modern age where technological development is one of the greatest gifts to humanity. Technology is the making, modification, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, crafts, systems and methods of organization, in order to solve a problem, improve a pre-existing solution to a problem, achieve a goal, handle an applied input/output relation or perform a specific function (Wikipedia). It also refer to the collection of such tools, including machinery, modifications, arrangements and procedures. We live in a technological society and we expect our machines to work. We take technologies for granted and, not to put too fine a point in it. When they fail, it seems like civilization is crashing around our ears (Matthew, 1999).
While speaking about technology and dependency at the same time, one may directly think of computers due to their remarkable capabilities to make humans dependent on them because these machines reduce work pressure as well as the time needed to finish a specific task. Computers are programmable machines, their main characteristic is responding to a specific set of instructions (Wikipedia).
It is arguable that computer dependencies is not as bad as some think. Noticeably, computers play a huge role in supporting humans to overcome daily difficulties such as repetitive tasks, communications and medical interaction.

Computers have no doubt became part of most businesses due to its ability to handle a high number of tasks. In addition, a computer can achieve a lot of work in no time with more precision and accuracy than humans. Computers are very useful tools in everyday life and that is why most companies regardless of their size and worth are always looking forward to stay “up-to-date” with these machines due to its significant impact on the functions of the company.
Almost all kinds of businesses are relying on computers for automating their traditional processes because computers offer great applications to fit any kind of businesses or institutions. In addition, most companies store digital versions of documents on servers and storage devices, which makes these informations instantly available to every employee connected to this network.
For instance, Computers serve many purposes inside of modern supermarkets including cash registers, “Points of sale” systems and keeping track of inventory. Moreover, computers are used banks. Imagine banks without computers. It would be miserable to have a general look of the stats of the customers’ accounts without a use of a computer or calculating the interest of a loan using a calculator and writing on papers. Such tasks would take a lifetime without a computer and a specific program designed to make such work. Therefore, a computer is necessary in all businesses, institutions and aspects especially in establishing communications.
The first thing that comes to the mind when speaking about communications are computers and especially the handheld computers...
